About us

Their life is in our hands

The enthusiasm and love in our hearts were at the beginning of our decision to establish Sloboda zvierat (Animal Freedom). After 25 years of experience working with animals, the number of such people has grown to several thousand. Our goal is to stop cruelty and abuse committed against animals and to promote a healthy cohabitation between humans and animals.

Direct animal rescue

Every day we rescue animals in the streets and canals, dumped, lost and abused. In the shelter we provide them with a roof over their heads, we treat them, we feed them. We give them love and care and our goal is to find them their former or new home. We also investigate cases of abuse, and we operate an emergency hotline 16 187.

Professional activity

Behind the doors of our offices, a daily marathon takes place - we address authorities, solve legal cases, document cases of abuse. We work with experts and scientists, we cooperate with foreign organizations. We actively lobby and communicate with municipalities and state administration. We are members of several European coalitions.

Campaigns and education

Our aim is not only to help animals but also to prevent animal abuse. That's why we organise a number of campaigns to raise public awareness of animal cruelty. We also try to raise awareness among those in charge. We organise events, marches, demonstrations and information stands. We cooperate with the mass media, publish press materials and communicate with the public. We educate children and young people. We organise lectures, excursions and projects focused on the protection of animals and nature.

Inspections

Even though animal abuse is a daily occurrence, the public does not know that we have state animal welfare inspectors paid for by our taxes. Thus, the Animal Welfare Act is only valid on paper. Perpetrators of animal abuse are not sufficiently punished. That's why there's our Anti-Cruelty Hotline, which is here to help abused, injured, neglected and endangered animals.
